In 1855 Johann Georg Patzenhofer brought Bavarian beer to Berlin by founding a Bavarian style brewery at the Neuen Königstrasse (now Otto-Braun-Strasse). He was the first in Berlin to brew the dark beer that was known from brewers from Nürnberg, Kulmbach and other places. His company soon produced a large amount of beer and moved to the Penstrasse an der Marienkirche (now Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse). In 1871 the company was renamed to Aktien-Brauerei-Gesellschaft Friedrichshöhe. Patzenhofer died in 1873 in Berlin. His wife Wilhelmine Patzenhofer-Müller died in 1896 and was buried next to him at the Alter Domfriedhof St. Hedwig in Berlin. Patzenhofer's company merged in 1920 with the Schultheiss brewery and until 1938 it was named Schultheiss-Patzenhofer Brauerei-AG. After that its name was Schultheiss-Brauerei AG. |
