Liesl Christ came from a large family. She studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Frankfurt am Main at the same time as Siegfried Lowitz and Agnes Fink. After finishing her studies she held engagements in Koblenz, Heilbronn and in 1944 in Görlitz. In 1942 she had married opera singer Frita Dahlem. They had a daughter, Gisela, but a divorce followed in 1944. After the war had ended she returned to Frankfurt with her mother and her daughter. In 1945 a second daughter was born, Bärbel Christ-Hess. In 1949 she toured with Lilian Harvey's show in Western Germany. In 1953 she was one of the founding members of the Landesbühne Rhein-Main in Frankfurt am Main. In 1959 she achieved national fame as Mamma Hesselbach in the German television series "Die Firma Hesselbach". She appeared in many more television productions and continued her stage career as well. In 1971 she founded the Frankfurter Volkstheater and she managed it until her death in 1996. |
