Benjamin Gibson was the younger brother of the sculptors John Gibson (1790-1866) and Solomon Gibson (1796-1866). They were close and lived together at Rome and Lucca for fourteen years. Benjamin Gibson wrote articles for English antiquarian publications and he was a member of the British Archaological Association of London. He died in Bagni di Lucca, aged only 40. His tomb was designed by his brother John.
