Yves Brieux-Ustaritz was a dancer at the Opera in Paris. He left it in the early 1930s to perform at galas across Europe with his dance partner Geneviève Harand, who was his wife as well and used the name Geneviève Ione. In 1940 he decided to concentrate on teaching. He was a professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse in Paris from 1947 to 1974. Between 1963 and 1970 he also taught a class at the Opera in Paris. Among his students were Claire Sombert, Claire Motte and Monique Loudières. In 1984 he became Officier de l'ordre national du mérite.
