Friedrich Stromann was the son of professor Ernst Johann Friedrich Stromeyer (1750-1830). He studied Medicin in Göttingen from 1793 to 1799. In 1800 he was promoted and he was appointed Professor of Chemics in Göttingen.

In 1806 he became a member of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen and in 1818 of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences as well as a honourary member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences. In 1827 he became a foreign member of the Royal Society. He died in 1835 in Göttingen.
