Alexandre Aguado (1813-1861) was the son of the banker and art collector Alexandre Aguado (1784-1842). He was educated at the military academy in Saint-Cyr and worked at the embassies in Vienna and Florence. In Florence he married Emily MacDonell, the daughter of a British consul. She was Lady of the Palace to Empress Eugénie and followed her into exile in 1870.
