Ferdinand-Henry Mortelèque was the inventor of a technique for painting on plates of volcanic lava. He used it for painting on enamel and glass as well. He worked for the Duc de Berry and for King Charles X. The Musée de Tournai posesses a plate representing three heads of angels that was created by him.
