Demetra Messala was the daughter of a Greek diplomat in Paris. She was a model for Aristide Maillol and Pablo Picasso. In Paris she met Arno Breker and in 1933 he made a sculpture of her. After she stopped her modelling career she became an art dealer.

In 1934 she moved with Breker to Germany. She was suspected of being Jewish by the nazis, but she was became successful as an international art dealer and in 1937 they married. They were intimate with Hitler and visited him at the Kehlsteinhaus in Berchtesgaden.

After the war she and Breker were able to continue their careers. She died in 1955 in a car accident.
