Lore von Wissmann studied at the Musikhochschulke in Stuttgart. In 1942 she debuted at the State Opera in Stuttgart, where she worked for thirty years and sang most mayor parts. She also appeared in Bayreuth, where she performed the part of Eva in Richard Wagner's "Die Meistersänger von Nürnberg". She sang in premieres of Hindemith, Orff and Strawinski and she appeared in Paris, Rome, Vienna and other cities. In 1961 she married the tenor Wolfgang Windgassen.
