FOUNTAINEER, ENGINEER (GERMANY)
BORN 1737, Hannover, Niedersachsen - DIED 7 Mar 1828, Hannover, Niedersachsen
GRAVE LOCATION Hannover, Niedersachsen: Alter St.-Nikolai-Friedhof, Klagesmarkt ((cenotaph))

Jean Joseph la Croix was born into a family of fountaineers that came from France. The family took care of the fountains of Schloss Herrenhausen in Hanover from 1700 to 1904. Like his father Georg Ludwig La Croix (d.1773) he was educated as a fountaineer and after his father's death he became maître fontainier.

In 1774 he married Maria Anna Francisca Vezin, the daugher of musical director Jean Baptiste Vezin. They had no children. When he died in 1828 he was buried at the Catholic cemetery St. Johannis. When that cemetery was cleared in 1929 to build the Vity Library of Hanover, part his tombstone was transferred to the Alten St.-Nikolai-Friedhof in Hanover.
