Karl Ludwig Fischer worked as musical director for the theatre in Trier, Cologne, Aachen, Nuremberg, Würzburg and Mainz before he came to Hanover in 1852. There he started as second musical director under Heinrich Marschner. He mostly worked at the Royal Opera that had opened in 1852 as well. Among his first students was the opera singer Georg Nollet. In 1855 he staged Wagner's "Tannhäuser" in Hanover. He became musical director in Hanover in 1860. He stayed in Hanover until his death in 1877.
