Georg Faber is best known for his Faber polynomials. Between 1896 and 1901 he studied mathematics and physics in Munich and Göttingen and he was prmoted in 1902 in Munich.

He worked as a professor in Tübingen, Stuttgart, Königsberg, Strasbourg and from 1916 to 1946 in Munich. In 1921 he became a memeber of the Bavarian Academy of Science. In 1945 the military government appointed him rector of the Technischen Hochschule in Munich. He held this position until his retirement in 1946. He died in 1966 in Munich.
