GRAVE LOCATION Madrid: Cementerio de San Justo (Patio de Santa Getrudis (1a Sección, sepultura de patio 1450))

Manuel Diéz Alégria entered the Army Corps of Engineers in Spain during the 1920s. During the Civil War he fought for the Nationalists. After that war he became a general and he was elected to the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences. Under Franco he held several positions.

He was strongly in favour of professionalism in the military profession and in 1972 he published a book on civil-military relations, "Ejército y sociedad". He wanted the military profession to be apolitical and for this the ultra army fractions under Franco's regime distrusted him. A few years later the army allowed Spain to become a kingdom and a democracy.
