Joseph Deschamps was a captain of the 8th bataillon that was organised by the city of Bordeaux at the time of the First Empire. He saw action in Italy and Germany. He retired from the army in 1807 but he returned in 1812 and was involved in the battles at Lutzen, Bautzen and Leipzig. In 1830, as a colonel, he commanded a legion of the nationale guard of Bordeaux. He died in Bordeaux in 1833. His grave monument at the Chartreuse cemetery was created by Florent Bonino.
