The soprano Emmi Kosáry was trained as pianist and an opera singer in Budapest. She started her career in 1908 at the Király Színház (King's Theatre) in Budapest and debuted at the Court Opera in 1909. On 22 December 1909 she married the composer Ákos Buttykay. She worked as an operatta singer at various theatres from 1912 onwards until she rejoined the Király Színház in 1916. She stayed there until 1919. From 1922 to 1931 she was engaged at the Fovárosi Operettszínházban (the operetta theatre). In 1923 she toured in the USA. In 1925 she sang in Vienna in the premiere of Lehárrs "Paganini". She also performed in Berlin and Dresden. In 1964 she died in Budapest.
