Eduard Bartling was a designer of industrial machines and the owner of mines and factories. He settled in Wiesbaden in the 1890s and in that city he built a villa and he published the newspaper Wiesbadener Generalanzeiger.

He was a member of the national liberal party and supported Otto von Bismarck's politics. From 1903 onwards he was several times a member of the Reichstag for his party.

His monument at the Nordfriedhof in Wiesbaden was created by Ernst Herter when Bartling was still alive. He was buried there after his death in 1927.
