Hertha von Hagen took acting lessons with Friederieke Bognár in Vienna. Ze was engaged at the Court Theatre in Munich and in 1908 she married the actor Gustav Waldau. In 1924 Max Reinhardt contracted them for the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna and after that they worked for many years for the Bayerische Staatsschauspiel.

She also appeared in movies, among them "Eine Nacht im Mai" (1938), "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" (1940) and "Jenny und der Herr im Frack" (1941). Her husband died in 1958 and after her death in 1962 she was buried with him at the Bogenhausener Friedhof in Munich.
