Marion Lippert took singing lessons with Irma Koboth, Hedwig Fichtmüller and Annelies Jupper. She also studied under Giuseppe Pais in Padua. In 1956 she debuted as Aida at the Stadttheater in Hagen, Westfalen. In 1959 she was engaged at the Stadttheater in Augsburg.

After an engagement at the Opera House in Cologne she moved to the State Opera of Stuttgart in 1962. There she was successful as a dramatic soprano. In 1971 she sang in "Elektra" by Richard Strauss. She made guest appearances in Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, Venice and many other cities. In 1969 she sang Puccini's Turandot at the Metroplolitan Opera in New York.
