Friedrich Mitterwurzer debuted at the Stadttheater in Meissen in 1862. In 1867 he married the actress Wilhelmine Rennert. He was engaged at the Burgtheater in Vienna in 1871, where he was very successful in "Faust". His natural (instead of highly dramatised) way of acting was unusual at the time. From 1886 to 1894 he toured in Germany, the Netherlands and the USA. In 1894 he returned to the Burgtheater. He died in 1897 in Vienna.
