Pauline von Württemberg was the daughter of prince Paul von Württemberg and his wife princess Charlotte of Sachsen-Hilburghausen. On 23 april 1829 the married Duke Wilhelm I of Nassau, who was eighteen years her senior and had previously been married to her aunt Louise. They had three children and their daughter Sophia (1836-1913) maried the Swedish king Oscar II.

The marriage was unhappy but she was popular with the people. After Wilhelm died in 1839 the so called Paulinenschlößchen was built for her in Wiesbaden between 1841 and 1843. She died in 1856 in Wiesbaden, aged only 46.
