From 1968 onwards Sylvia Manas held an engagement at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna. During the 1970s she was also in television productions and movies, among them "Jeder stirbt für sich allein". In that movie her husband Heinz Ehrenfreund appeared as well. They also played together in the episode "Tod der Kolibris" (1975) of the television series "Derrick". The marriage ended in a divorce.

In 1977 her car overturned in a trafffic accident. From the outside she seemed intact and she was able to tell where her boyfriend Dieter Wedel could be reached. But in the ambulance she died from internal bleedings. She was on her way to the live television production "Dalli Dalli" with Hans Rosenthal. It was broadcasted on 8 October, 1977 with Heidi Brühl replacing her. Wedel later stated that they had argued before because she never buckled up.

After Sylvia's death Gertraud Jesserer was asked to take over her part in "Das Spiel von Liebe und Zufall" at the Burgtheater in Vienna. She refused because Manas had been her best friend and she felt unable to replace her under these circumstances. Subsequently she was fired on the spot for a breach of contract by Achim Benning.
