Gaston Charbonnier was educated at the lycée Condorcet in Paris. During his youth he was a fine violinist. He moved with his family moved to Nice and there he embarked on a career as a lawyer.

He never gave up music but from that time he concentrated on poetry in symbolist style. Among his volumes of poetry are "Les grandes heures" and "Clartés sur le chemin". He died in 1966 and a street was named after him in Nice.
