Mary Rühle (or Rudy) was educated in Paris by the famous singer Mathilde Marchesi. In 1906 she debuted at the Hoftheater in Coburg and from 1907 to 1909 she worked in Plausen. From 1910 to 1913 she was engaged in Basel. In 1913 she moved to Karlsruhe where she worked very successfully until 1932 as a member of the ensemble of the theatre and from 1932 to 1936 as a guest.

After her active singing career she worked as a teacher in Karlsruhe. The name of her first husband was Von Ernst and her second husband was the singer Ernst Esselsgroth (1893-1976).
