Annelise Römer was educated at the Schauspielschule in Bochum where Saladin Schmitt was her teacher. From 1942 she worked at the Städtische Bühne in Münster and from 1945 to 1947 at the Neues Theater in Stuttgart. Her film career was limited. She debuted in "Das Hochzeitshotel" in 1944 and she stood next to Heinz Rühmann in "Der Herr vom andern Stern" in 1948. She occasionally appeared in further movies. From 1947 to 1951 she was engaged the Schauspielhaus in Zürich.

She married Harry Meyen in 1953 and after their divorce in 1966 he married Romy Schneider. From 1953 to 1956 she worked at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and from 1956 to 1967 in Berlin at the Staatliche Schauspielbühnen and after that at the Volksbühne. She continued her career in Stuttgart (1974-1977), Frankfurt (1977-1979) and Bochum (1979-1986). In 1986 she went to the Burgtheater in Vienna where she performed in the premiere of N.T. Bernard's "Heldenplatz" in 1988.
