Pierre-Maie Bossan was a pupil of Henri Labrouste and speicalised in ecclesiastical architecture. In 1844 he became architect to the diocese of Lyon, where he designed the neo-Byzantine basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière (1872-1884). He is also the architect of the église Saint-Georges in Lyon. Apart from more churches he also designed funerary monuments at Valance.
