Virgilio Talli came from a middle class family. In 1881 he joined the theatre company Tessero-Biagi. He also workred with E. Novelli and G. Pietriboni. In 1895 he formed the Talli-Sichel-Tovagliari company and from 1900 to 1906 he was part of the Talli-Gramatica-Calabresi company. He married the actress Ida Carloni.

After the first World War he withdrew from the stage and founded an acting school in Milan. Maria Melato was one of his students. He died in 1928 in Milan.
