Eugénie Weber was the daughter of Charles Weber, who was secretary to the politician Edouard Lockroy and led the 66th batillion during the Commune and he died there 1871. In 1883 she entered the Conservatoire and in 1885 she was engaged at the Odeon. In 1886 she took the name of her husband, the actor Léon Segond. On June 1st, 1887 she joined the Comédie-Française and her career as a tragic actress would last until 1944. She had a daughter with the painter René Joseph Gilbert (1857-1914), who died in 1918. She divorced Segond in 1907. From 1921 until her death she was in a relationship with the writer Jeanne Galzy (1883-1977). She died in 1945 and she was buried at Père Lachaise in Paris, not far from the great tragic actor Talma. The painter Pierre Segond-Weber is her son. |
