In 1882, when she was only fourteen years old, she was engaged at the Königlichen Schauspielhaus in Berlin. From 1884 until 1886 she held an engagement in St. Petersburg. In 1886 she went to Dresden and there she soon convinced the public in the parts of Nora and Salome.
Basté rejected offers from Berlin and Vienna and worked for decades at the Staatsoper in Dresden, where she became a member of honour. In Dresden she met and married the actor and author Franz Wallner (1854-1940). Their son Franz was born in 1896. In 1912 she left the stage.
