Kurt Früh was the son of a postman. In 1926 the family moved to Zürich. He studied speech and music at the Zürich University and in 1933 he joined the Zürcher Volksbühne. He worked as actor, director and eventually also as manager. At the same time he was active for the cabarets Cornichon, Bärentatze and Pfeffermühle.

In 1938 he started shooting advertising movies and in 1949 he became assistant director under Leopold Lindtberg. In 1955 his first own movie "Polizischt Wäckerli" was released. Further movies followed. From 1967 to 1969 he was a teacher at the movie class of the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Zürich. In 1972 he directed his last movie "Der Fall".

He was married to the actress Eva Langraf (1909-2009) and their daughter Katja (b.1953) became an actress as well as a director.
