Colatura soprano Vally (or Vali) von der Osten was the daughter of the actors Emil von der Osten and Rosa von der Osten-Hildebrandt and the sister of the famous soprano Eva von der Osten. Vally was educated as a singer in Dresden. She debuted in 1904 at the Hoftheater in Altenburg and performed mostly at the Hoftheater in Kassel. She was best known for her Wagner parts.

She married opera singer Fritz Windgassen and their son Wolfgang Windgassen (1914-1974) was also a well known opera singer. She was only 40 years old when she died in Kassel.
