Son of the actor Eduard Devrient (1801-1877). He started his career in Karlsuhe and proceeded to Stuttgart and Berlin, where he worked from 1860 to 1861. Engagements in Leipzig, Karlsruhe, Weimar, Mannheim and Frankfurt am Main followed. In 1880 he was very successful at the Victoriatheater in Berlin with the two parts of Faust that had premiered in Weimar. From 1881 onwards he lived in Jena with the exception of engagements in Oldenburg and Berlin. In 1894 he died in Jena. Family • Father: Devrient, Eduard |
