Youngest of the two surviving daughters of William Makepeace Thackeray and known as Minnie. Her mother Isabella Shawe was mentally ill and lived in an institution. She grew up in France and England and when she and her sister Anny reached adulthood they received their father's guests for his famous dinners in their London house.
She was left alone with Anny after Thackeray died in 1863 at the age of 52. The girls were friends of Julia Cameron and she photographed Minnie in 1865. She married literary man Leslie Stephen in 1867 and they had a daughter, Laura. Minnie unexpectedly died in 1875 on her husband's 43th birthday.
