Stella Loderbang was educated at the Sacre Coeur in Paris and in Stuttgart, where she perfected her German. In Stuttgart she took an interest in the theatre and in 1873 she debuted at the Nationaltheater in Berlin without a formal acting education.

She appeared in Strasbourg and in Switzerland before Franz von Dingelstedt engaged her at the Burgtheater in Vienna in September 1873. Adolf Wilbrandt casted her for his plays and in 1881 she became a Court Actor. In 1887 she received a contract for life at the Burgtheater.

In 1889 she married Alffred von Berger (1853-1912). When he became the manager of the Burgtheater (1910-1912) she withdrew from the stage. After 1912 she was unable to obtain new parts. She lived at the Villa Hohenfels, Hietzinger Hauptstrasse 31, Wien-Hitzing.
