Symbolist author Karel van de Woestijne was educated in Ghent, where he studied German philology. During this period he came into contact with French symbolism. From 1900 until 1904 and from 1905 until 1906 he lived at Sint-Martens-Latem.

In 1906 he came correspondent of the Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant in Brussels. He worked for several Belgian magazines and between 1920 and 1929 he taught Dutch Literary History in Ghent. The painter Gustave van de Woestijne is his brother.

Work: "Het Vaderhuis" (1903); "De gulden Schaduw" (1910); "Het bergmeer" (1928).
