Gerda Gmelin was the daughter of the actor Helmuth Gmelin (1891-1959). She was educated at the school of the Hamburger Schauspielhaus from 1937 to 1939. She was engaged at the theatre in Koblenz and she returned there after the war in 1950. In 1955 she moved to the Theater im Zimmer in Hamburg that was founded by her father in 1947. After her father died in 1959 she became its stage director. Apart from her work for the theatre she often appeared in television productions like Tatort. She wasn't married but she had two sons. She died in 2003 in Hamburg. |
