Guido Crepax studied at the School of Architecture of the University of Milan. After he graduated he started creating comics in 1959. He worked for Tempo Medico and in 1965 he joined Linus with "Neuron". A reporter called Valentina appeared in this comic and she became his main character.

Several Valentina titles were published at the end of the 1960s and sadomasochism and violence were recurring themes. Crepax also illustrated De Sade's "Justine" and Pauline Réage's "Histoire d'O". His characters were often inspired by the actress Louise Brooks.
