Frtiz Stavenhagen was the son of a coahman. He was trained as a pharmacist, but soon he tried to make himself a living with his sketches and stories. In Berlin he worked for Otto Brahm and in 1905 he was employed as a dramatist by the Schillertheater in Berlin. Unfortunately he died the next year, only 29 years old.

He is mainly remembered for his play "Mudder Mews" from 1904. This piece was compared with the work of Gerhart Hauptmann.
