Hanbs Wislicenus was the son of the history painter Hermann Wislicenus.
He studied at the Academy of Art in Düsseldorf from 1882 to
1889 and continued his studies with Eugène Carrière in Paris.
In 1891 he exhibited in Berlin. In 1896 he married his cousin Lilli Finzelberg with whom he had spent part of his childhood (she lived for several years with the family). In his later years he mainly worked as a portrait painter of Berlin society.
