After the cemetery at the Chausseestrasse was removed early in the 20th century, the St. Hedwig cemetery is the oldes Catholic cemetery in Berlin. The chapel was built in 1866-1867 and it was rebuilt in its original style in 1987. Many historical graves were lost in 1961 and in 1967 when the Berlin Wall was built.
